Jump$tart Washington: Kick Off The School Year With Financial Education

Jump$tart Washington

Tuesday, August 25, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM (PDT)

The Jump$tart Washington Coalition invites you to a school year kick-off event focused on financial education —
in honor of recent legislation signed into law requiring financial education to be incorporated into existing state learning standards.
This event will provide you with information on what’s available, who has it, why you should incorporate it into your classes and how.

A representative from Federal Deposit Insurance Commission (FDIC) will unveil the newest Money Smart curriculum developed in partnership with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) – Money Smart for Young People. This curriculum addresses the need to start early – with a Pre-K component – and consistently enforce the concepts with curriculum for students up to the age of 20.

Ken McDonnell from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) will discuss how the FDIC-CFPB partnership on the Money Smart for Young People came about, and how it’s a great resource not just for teachers and their students, but also for parents and their children. He also will talk about CFPB information that can help you talk to students about paying for college.

Pam Whalley from the Financial Education Public Private Partnership, Washington Council for Economic Education and Western Washington University will discuss how teachers across the state are incorporating financial education into their classrooms, FEPPP teacher trainings, and CLE credits available for attending this event.

Our final guest speaker will amaze and energize you in preparation for the coming school year.

Attendance to this event is free of charge, thanks to our generous sponsor, the FDIC.FDIC

We hope you will join us at the beautiful Talaris Conference Center(http://www.talarisconferencecenter.com/) for a day focused on working together to create a brighter – and more financially educated – tomorrow for future generations.
