Pre-PAC Assessments are available for pilot testing (Phase 4):
AAFCS and the FCS Credentialing Center are pleased to announce that two additional Pre-PAC assessments are available for pilot testing (Phase 4):
We are now accepting pilot test registrations for pilot testing to begin on Monday, March 15. The pilot tests must be administered by Monday, April 5, 2010. The criteria and process to become a pilot test site and information about the assessments are on our website, along with a link to the online Pilot Test Registration, at http://www.aafcs.org/prepac/pilot.

Leadership Opportunities
Candidates Needed for FACSE Leadership Positions
We, as FACSE teachers, teach leadership as an important life skill. Step up to the plate and practice what you teach! If you want a leadership role or if you can recommend someone you think would be a good candidate.
The benefits of doing this are many but consider these:
Attendance at the annual leadership retreat paid by the organization.
Connecting with other professional leaders in the state.
Have direct input into the Professional Development for FACSE offered in the state.
BE a Part of your professional organization leadership.
Share your Social ideas with the Networking Committee
They are working on planning social activities during summer conference. We are hoping that teachers who may feel isolated within their schools or districts will have an opportunity to meet other FACSE teachers for friendship and support. So send suggestions to Kim Fisher at km.fshr@gmail.com
Roundtable Sharing Ideas
Our most popular event at summer conference is always the round table sharing of lesson ideas. In order to continue to offering this activity at future conferences, we need to illicit more participation. Remember the idea of “share and share alike”? Have you participated in receiving lessons in the past? Then it is time YOU shared! Plus, it feels good to have your colleagues admire your work!
All of you have great ideas and it is easy to do - simply:
Contact Kim Fisher (km.fshr@gmail.com) & let her know you’re willing to share
Bring 50 copies of your lesson to summer conference.
Show up at the sharing session where you will have an assigned table.
Teachers will come to you and you share what you do.
We will even gather a copy of the lessons (from the other table presentations) for you so you do not miss out on their great ideas just because you were sharing some yourself!

Excerpts from DALTONS STORY from the Puget Sound Skills Center Newsletter
In December of 2008, I helped Tamas Ronyai, Executive Chef at Safeco Field work a dinner for 100 of the Washington State Chef Association with two others from my class. After the event he offered me, along with the other volunteers, a job when the baseball season started. In January 2009, ten students and I volunteered to work the Governor’s Inaugural Ball which had over 5,000 guests. Four months after the dinner at Safeco Field, I took Tamas Ronyai’s offer of a job. I started in April 2009, and went on to work the baseball season. Throughout the season I worked in four different kitchens, catered banquets of 800 and higher attendees, and really learned the stress a cook has to deal with on a daily basis. I plan on earning the certification of Certified Junior Culinarian from the American Culinary Federation in June 2010, and I am sure this is the right career for me.
